Special Ways to Connect to CPC

All our members are encouraged to find a ministry in which they flourish, but maybe you can only lend a hand once in a while. Maybe you are new to our church and aren’t sure how to get involved. Maybe you feel that God is calling you to use your time and talents. This is a great place to start!

Do you feel that God is calling you to…

Join the centering prayer group. See Jennifer Makin for more details.

Spiritual listening?

Try the spiritual listening group. Contact Don Makin for more information.

Vocal or instrumental music?

We offer vocal choirs for children through adults, as well as handbell groups. Get more information at the music ministry page.

Assisting with worship?

Serve as a liturgist (lay leader when our pastor is away), an usher, or a greeter (before worship).

Pictures of church events are always welcomed. Some may be selected for our website or our next pictorial directory. Please send your best shots to the church email address: cpchurch@usit.net

Adopt a plot on the church property. Weed, plant new flowers, and find a happy home your divided perennials.

Youth ministry?

Contact Melissa Lawson to help out with high school, middle school, elementary, or early childhood activities. Adult mentors are always needed to help youth ministry run smoothly.

Love little ones?

Extra hands are always appreciated during the Sunday School hour in the nursery so young moms can go to their own classes. (Certain safety checks apply to all volunteers. See Melissa Lawson for details.)

College age outreach?

Each month, CPC sponsors a meal for UKirk, the PCUSA ministry at Virginia Tech. Couples, families, and groups are needed to prepare and serve the meal at Cooper House on Tech campus. It is always a fun and uplifting time!

Cooking and baking?

Please see Ginny Poff, chairperson of the Fellowship Ministry Team, to donate baked goods and/or dishes for various church fellowship events.

The Congregational Care ministry team also keeps a list of volunteers who are willing to make meals for those in need within our congregation. Contact anyone on the ministry team to get your name on the list.

Take care of those experiencing difficult times?

Congregational Care is looking for a person to organize meals for when there is a need in our church community. No cooking required!

Written encouragement?

Cards for our members are available each Sunday before and after the service. Please add your note of encouragement to those experiencing loss, illness, or life change.

Paper crafting?

If you enjoy stamping, coloring, scrapbooking, or card making, please consider donating some of your handmade cards and envelopes for use in encouraging those in our church community.

Prepare bulletin boards?

Assist with the preparation and updating of bulletin boards throughout the church.

Give financially?

In addition to your regular giving, we have many seasonal and special offerings throughout the year for mission work locally and abroad.

Donate material goods?

Donation containers for MCEAP and the Women’s Resource Center are located outside of the church office. Please see here for items that are most needed at this time.
